West Africa
West Africa Meeting
In November 2008, the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, the World Health Organization, and the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI) collaborated to organize a West African meeting that focused on the decision-making framework. Immunization and malaria experts from 17 African countries reviewed the data and processes described in the framework and validated it as a planning tool for future malaria vaccine decisions in the sub-region.
Among other things, the participants agreed that:
- MVI should conduct outreach to inform national authorities about the planning tool and develop a document for its implementation;
- MVI and its partners should provide technical and financial support for data collection;
- The National Malaria Control Program and the Expanded Program on Immunization in each country in the sub-region should conduct advocacy with national stakeholders to promote use of the planning tool.
