Different information is required over time to help inform decisions on potential malaria vaccine use. The data needs will depend on how many years remain until a vaccine is licensed, or how many years have passed since it was made available. The planning tool shows the different periods as the pre-licensure, licensure, and post-licensure phases. During the extensive consultations involved in developing the planning tool, it became clear that countries would need to begin planning approximately five years prior to licensure.
